Baptisms

Baptisms

English baptisms will take place at 9:00 AM on the first and third Saturdays of each month; Spanish baptisms will take place at 9:00 AM on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Please email Deacon Omar Bardales at baptism@cbssac.org to find out which Saturdays still have an opening. Only ten baptisms will be scheduled at a time.  A baptism class is now required. Both parents and both Godparents must attend a baptism class.  English baptism class is given at 7:00 PM on the first Thursday of each month; the Spanish baptism class is given on the second Thursday of each month. Baptism classes are given in the Cathedral. You can just come to a baptism class. You must, however, register for a baptism. For both English and Spanish baptisms, fill out the Baptism Registration Form and email it to Deacon Omar Bardales at baptism@cbssac.org. Please attach a copy of your child's official birth certificate.

Marriage Preparation

The Diocese of Sacramento requires an engaged couple to complete a marriage preparation program no later than two months before their wedding date. During this most exciting and joyful time of planning and preparation, the Cathedral Parish would like to invite you to participate in the Cathedral Marriage Preparation Program. The Marriage Preparation Program focuses on the sacramentality and nature of marriage and the beauty of human sexuality. Topics include: Sacrament of Matrimony, FOCCUS© Pre-Marriage Inventory, Communication, Family of Origin, Faith & Finances, The Rite of Marriage, Cohabitation, and Natural Family Planning. Contact: Deacon Omar & Janet Bardales at matrimonyprep@att.net, or 916-427-9160.

After you have registered for the Cathedral Marriage Preparation Program, please click on the payment link to make your payment.

You do not have to have your wedding at the Cathedral in order to take this class.

Weddings

In choosing to come to the Catholic Church for the celebration of your wedding, you have made a choice to begin and to live your marriage in a Christian manner; to see your wedding as more than just a wonderful social event, but as something which draws its deeper meaning from our Christian faith.

If you would like to celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony at the Cathedral, download the Cathedral Wedding Guidelines. We ask that together, you read these Guidelines carefully. Please make note of any questions you may have for the priest, deacon, or wedding coordinator when you meet them. Contact the parish office at least six months before your desired wedding date to arrange a meeting with Wedding Coordinator, Titi Kila, at tkila@cathedralsacramento.org. You will complete initial paperwork and receive a booklet that assists you in choosing readings and planning the ceremony. Appointments to meet with a priest and deacon are then scheduled.

Ceremonies take place on a Friday afternoon at 2pm or 3pm, at a time of the couple's choosing, or on a Saturday, at 11:30 am, 2:00 pm, or 6:30 pm.

Anointing of the Sick

For special circumstances or individuals seeking this sacrament, please contact the rectory office at  916-444-3071.

Confession

'Catholics Come Home' explains "The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the most unique and beautiful aspects of Catholicism. Jesus Christ, in His abundant love and mercy, established the Sacrament of Confession, so that we as sinners can obtain forgiveness for our sins and reconcile with God and the Church. The sacrament “washes us clean,” and renews us in Christ."

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available at the cathedral Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 12:00pm, on Saturdays from 4:00pm to 4:45pm, and in Spanish on Sundays from 12:00pm to 12:45pm, and 6:30pm to 7:00pm.

Communion

"At the heart of the Eucharistic celebration are the bread and wine that, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become Christ's Body and Blood. Faithful to the Lord's command the Church continues to do, in his memory and until his glorious return, what he did on the eve of his Passion: "He took bread. . . ." "He took the cup filled with wine. . . ." The signs of bread and wine become, in a way surpassing understanding, the Body and Blood of Christ; they continue also to signify the goodness of creation. Thus in the Offertory we give thanks to the Creator for bread and wine, fruit of the "work of human hands," but above all as "fruit of the earth" and "of the vine" - gifts of the Creator. The Church sees in the gesture of the king-priest Melchizedek, who "brought out bread and wine," a prefiguring of her own offering." (CCC 1333)

Confirmation

Youth Confirmation is normally celebrated after a period of preparation in Family Faith Formation and Youth Ministry Programs. After a period of at least one full year of formation, as signs of readiness present themselves, and the youth shows a desire for the Sacrament, they can apply for an interview for Confirmation. This interview is to help the teen and their parents discern if Confirmation is the next step for them. Following the interview process, if all agree that Confirmation is the next logical step in the teen's formation, they will be scheduled for a special series of Confirmation preparation sessions, retreat, and the Sacrament, usually on Pentecost Sunday. For more information, please contact Sr. Lisa Marie at cathedralfaithformationsac@gmail.com.

Adult Confirmation classes are offered in the spring of every year for practicing Catholic adults. You must be baptized, have received first communion, and have a confirmation sponsor. The next program begins Thursday, February 2, 2023. Classes are every Thursday, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The Celebration of Confirmation takes place on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the 5:00 pm Mass (tentatively), preceded by a Retreat of preparation on Saturday, May 25, 2023; from 9:30 am to 12 noon in the Cathedral’s Mercy Hall for all candidates and sponsors. The class cost is $35.  To register, download and complete the Adult Confirmation Registration Form, and mail it to the cathedral office, attention Sr. Lisa Marie, or email it to Cathedral Faith Formation Office.
