More than two thousand years ago, the first Confirmation class met in a small crowded upper room in Jerusalem.

“And when the day of Pentecost had come…there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:1-4)

And now your child’s own journey toward Confirmation begins! The following shares not only our guidelines for the preparation of adolescents for the Sacrament of Confirmation, but even more importantly, we hope to enter into the exploration of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.

This is a question for the whole family, so as you read on about the Sacrament, please be mindful that we wanting to engage your whole family in the universal call to follow Jesus.

Below there are several parts:

  • What is the Sacrament of Confirmation

  • How are we called to be Disciples (the Sacrament will help us to live this out).

  • Family and adolescent’s responsibility in preparing for the Sacrament (and disicipleship)

  • Readiness Family-Assessment. Is my family ready to accompany our adolescent at this time?

The Church recognizes you as your child’s primary educator in the life of faith. Your role is pivotal as your child prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and be fully initiated into the Catholic Church.

You may feel enthusiastic and eager to be involved in the formation process, or you may feel unsure about your role or even about the Faith. Whatever your personal situation, be encouraged by the fact that God loves you and your child without limit. This limitless love—which is the core of our Catholic Faith—is very good news indeed. May the Holy Spirit inspire and encourage you as you guide your child into the fullness of the Faith.

The Church defines Confirmation:

"Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded… the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”

God made the world—and you—on purpose. What is that purpose? Well, that’s what St. John Paul II went to great lengths to explain in his Theology of the Body talks, which Fr. Mike and Christopher West sum up beautifully in these videos. With profound simplicity, inspired by St. John Paul II, they share the fundamental truths of this ingenious vision of humanity and sexuality. Made in God’s image and likeness, you are your body, and you are made for love. What you do with your body matters. You’ll have to watch the video to get the last and most powerful point. It’s amazing.

If you liked this video, please stay posted for a series for parents and teens to walk through the beauty of how God made us.
