Thinking about getting married in the Cathedral? Planning ahead is critical. Following are a few pointers to get you started:

Who To Contact
Cathedral Wedding Coordinator
(916) 444-3071

Couples need to contact the parish office six (6) months before the planned wedding. After couples schedule their wedding date, they need to meet with the wedding coordinator for initial paperwork and to receive a booklet that assists them in choosing readings and planning the ceremony. After that, a time can be scheduled to meet with a priest or deacon.

Ceremony Times
There are three time-slots on Saturdays for weddings:

  •  11:30 a.m.
  •  2:00 p.m.
  •  6:30 p.m.

Weddings can also take place on Friday afternoon or evening, at a time of the couples’ choosing.

Marriage Preparation Classes

Couples are required to complete a marriage preparation course. Three programs are approved by the Diocese of Sacramento. Couples must attend one of the three:

Engaged Couples Weekend Retreat
A low-key weekend specifically designed to give the couples planning marriage an opportunity to dialogue honestly about their lives together; their strengths, weaknesses, desires, ambitions, goals; their attitude about money, sex, children, family; their role in the Church and society.

Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation Conference
Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation Conference is for engaged couples planning to be married in the Catholic Church and who are referred by the priest/deacon or wedding coordinator. A full day is created which will enable you to have an opportunity to discuss honestly with each other your strengths and growing edges — family living, communication, finances, Christian sexuality, the Sacrament of Matrimony and your role in the Church and society.
