The Cathedral of the Blessed
Sacrament is the seat of the Diocese of Sacramento, which
spans 20 counties in Northern California. Bishop William
K. Weigand, who was installed in the Cathedral of the Blessed
Sacrament on January 27, 1994, is the eighth bishop of
the Diocese of Sacramento.
Bishop Weigand was born May 23, 1937
in Bend, Oregon and attended Catholic schools throughout
his childhood. He attended Mt. Angel Minor Seminary, St.
Benedict, Oregon during high school and then entered Mt.
Angel Seminary in 1955 and was ordained to the priesthood
in 1963 by the Bishop of Boise. His first appointment as
a bishop was for the Diocese of Salt Lake City in 1980. |
